Christian Brothers Academy entered the game as a heavy underdog, after all Half Hollow Hills West was a Nationally recognized team and the #1 team in New York State.  All that the Brothers did was slay the giant of New York Basketball and they did it in convincing fashion.
The Brothers used powerful second and third quarters to defeat the Colts 71-53 and earn the Class AA State Title.
Hills West entered the game highly touted with two superstars on their team but after getting himself in foul trouble in the first half, Tobias Harris found himself in a tough situation. The Senior center had just tried to tip away a pass intended for CBA's Max Weaver and in the process hit Weaver in the head and was whistled for his fourth foul.  Upset with the official's call, Harris reacted emotionally and was given a technical foul giving him his fifth personal and disqualifying him from further play in the game.
It has happened before.  A key player fouls out with 1:32 remaining, but this time it was in the third quarter.
After losing one of their two key players, the focus turned immediately to Tavan Sledge.  The Junior swingman has the ability to take over a game with his athleticism and ability to jump through the roof while also adding a smooth shot from behind the arc.  Sledge did just that and netted a game high 33 points for the Colts.  His effort was great but it was not enough to propel the Section XI representatives to victory.
To take down the New York basketball giant, the Brothers had to summon the three-headed monster that they have called upon all season.
Galal Cancer led the Brothers with 19 points including 7-of-11 from the free throw line.
Tournament MVP Kameron Ritter shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and added four field goals giving him 17 on the night and the third head of the monster, Max Weaver netted 15 of his own.
In all nine members of the newly crowned state champions scored and the Brothers will now move on to next weekends Federation Tournament held once again at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
