AVERILL PARK WINS FEDERATION TITLE
AVERILL PARK  60 VS.  ST. ANTHONY'S 58
Excellent coaching, a wonderful proud community and most importantly a hard working and talented team have lead to a well deserved title and the moniker of 'BEST TEAM IN THE STATE'.
That's right Section II, Averill Park is the girls Class A New York State Federation Champions after defeating St. Anthony's of Melville 60-48.
Through the first three quarters of play the two finalist for the Class A title played a tightly contested battle, but as they have done all year, the Lady Warriors grinded out another victory through tough defense, excellent three point shooting, and a smooth stroke from the foul line.  Averill Park led at each of the breaks but never by more than three points.  The fourth quarter was another story.  Senior Michella Ottati hit her usual clutch three pointers while the Suburban Council, Section II and New York State MVP Katie Duma effortlessly dropped in her free throws and the remaining cast of the newly crowned champions played flawlessly on both ends of the court resulting in Section II's first girls Federation Title since 2001.
The Lady Warriors surely were not alone as a huge contingent of Averill Park fans were in attendance at the Glens Falls Civic Center.  Anyone who has been to an Averill Park game throughout this magical run has seen the sea of Blue and Gold in the stands and heard them from miles away.
NYCAPITALSPORTS.NET WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE THE LADY WARRIORS AND THE COMMUNITY OF AVERILL PARK.
AVERILL PARK DISMANTLES MEDGAR EVERS
Averill Park  58 vs.  Medgar Evers 34
With 4:31 remaining in the first half Averill Park trailed Medgar Evers 17-12, but the Warriors remained poised and hit their shots.  Molly Streb hit a three pointer with time winding down in the half to give Averill Park a 24-20 halftime lead and most importantly the momentum going into the locker room.
Michela Ottati and Katie Duma each hit a three pointer to open the second half and from there the Section II and Public High School representative Averill Park Warriors rolled to victory 58-34 and move on to Saturday's Federation Championship and will take on St. Anthony's

At the start of the season Averill Park knew that had something special in their girls basketball team.  They placed nine seniors on a roster of 12, most with great playing experience, extreme talent, and most of all a drive to make it all the way.
On Saturday the Lady Warriors acieved what seemed to be their destiny from the beginning and defeated Lakeland of Section I 53-46 In the NYSPHSAA CLass A Championship at Hudson Valley Community College.
In the Championship game the Section II girls Class A representative was posed with a big challenge, six foot three inch Tori Jarosz of Lakeland.  Jarosz is widely considered the best girls player in New York State and will be earning a Division I scholarship next year to continue her career.
Averill Park Head Coach Sean Organ kept the game plan the same, and played team basketball.
"We did all the little things tonight," commented Organ. "That is why we got the win."
The little things, as they have all season, consisted of hustle, tough defense and timely shooting.
At the beginning it did not look as if Averill Park had the magic.  Shots did not seem to fall as they had thus far in the State Tournament, but frustration never showed on the faces of the Warriors.  As the game went on they took control and spread the ball around.
Michela Ottati led the timely shooting by netting four three point shots on her way to a team high 17 points.
Katie Duma played her usual game, bring the ball up to the court the majority of the time, play tight defense and head to the free throw line more than a dozen times.  The Senior went 9-of-13 from the line and added 14 points in the championship effort.
The idea for the Warriors was not to stop Lakelands star because that task would be to daunting, but instead they simply tried to slow down Jarosz and make sure that the role players did not have big games.  Jarosz did score a game high 27 but no other member of Section I's representative scored more than six points.
Though the run is not over yet, destiny has been achieved by the Averill Park girls basketball team.  The Warriors return to action on Friday as they take on Long Island Lutheran in the Federation Tournament at the Glens Falls Civic Center
